Welcoming Spring!

The Silly Bean blog is back with some new adventures! Especially in this season with #COVID19 and seeing lots of posts from moms and teachers about kids being at home, blog posts about ideas of things to do with kids at home, I figured that our contribution of what we've been doing could benefit some others, if not spark some more ideas of fun, intentional things to do!

Silly Bean is a little over 2 1/2 years old now, and has just grown and changed so much since the last post. We are constantly on the go and busy busy busy! Lately, Silly Bean has been really into hopscotch, practicing writing his letters and numbers, singing, picking flowers, to name a few activities. I have to say, mass buying chalk and bubbles have been really good --we've been trying to get outside every day no matter what the weather is so that we don't drive our downstairs neighbors (who are both working from home now) crazy with all the running/jumping inside. Got to get that energy out somewhere, so outside it is!

welcome spring!
Silly Bean loves to trace the numbers we write for hopscotches!
Aside from identifying flowers (and picking and pressing them) we've also been doing some indoor activities to welcome spring.  Been trying to utilize more random spaces that are largely un-used to make things more interesting as we play more at home (really missing those playdates with friends, running errands, or generally getting out of the house) and so this is what we came up with:

Hopefully the beans will germinate and we can learn about how seeds grow. I tried not to wrap the seeds in the damp paper towel, as I know they grow well when completely wrapped inside, so that we'll be able to see them growing, but we'll see. We'll keep you posted!

We also had a second-hand plastic easel that we were painting on, but I noticed a weird mildew smell coming from it, so we shifted our easel-painting/drawing to this:

Mostly just random painting/drawing as well as letters, but Silly Bean has also been learning how to draw flowers--or at least color in my flowers' petals ;)

Those are the most recent things we have been doing that are generally spring-related. I have lots of other ideas that we're going to try, so stay tuned for the next blog post about other adventures for kids (and adults!) that can come out of social distancing/sheltering at home!
